Scriptorium 1.6 Beta Released

Posted on July 21st, 2005

I just put a beta of Scriptorium up on Sourceforge. I've been meaning to get back to this project for a long time, but various obligations have been popping up. The project is not dead by any means. It's just proceeding at a very leisurely pace.

Since the last version was released about a year ago, Guillaume Lecanu has contributed quite a bit to Scriptorium to take it in some directions I never thought it would go in. For one thing, he introduced a localization feature so Scriptorium can have a bit of an international flare. You can now switch between and English and French interface; other languages can be supported as well.

The other big feature was the addition of a commenting feature. I haven't used this very much, but for multiuser installations this is a nice way to encourage user participation.

Scriptorium's ability to upgrade itself has also been given some attention, although I still want to verify that everything in that department works as well as I think it does. Hence the beta status of this release. Since the project has been dormant for a while, I have a sneaking suspicion that there are some lingering issues that still need to be resolved. Hopefully they can be identified in short order and a final release of v1.6 will make its debut in less than another year's time.
