NetBSD on a Power Mac 9600/350

I spent a couple hours on this, but no luck. I understand what I'm trying to do a bit better, though. Last time I looked into this the fact that NetBSD needed you to modify your OpenFirmware settings was a swerving deterrent. This time I followed the instructions a little more carefully and slowly. Even so, no luck. Although I can get to the OF prompt well enough (and equally important, get out of it) I can't persuade it to boot from the CDROM. I used various combinations of:

boot scsi-int/sd@3:0

When I issue that command I can hear the CDROM drive spin up, but that's it. The machine locks up, the drive eventually spins down, and I have to restart.

I think it must be a problem with SCSI termination. Just for kicks I tried XPostFacto again, and got a similarly discouraging system freeze upon reboot. The XPostFacto documentation indicates OS X is especially persnickety about SCSI termination, so maybe something similar is going on with NetBSD.

On the plus side, whereas the last time I tried this I got fed up fast and canned the whole project prematurely, this time I think I'm in it for the long haul. There's evidence on the web that people have done this successfully (both NetBSD and OS X on a 9600). It's just a matter of time before I unlock the magic.
